There are so many date varieties to choose from – and all are incredibly delicious! We know that choosing is hard, and that’s why we created the PALMYPRA Mini Sampler. This small PALMYRA sampler package gives you the chance to try 9 different date varieties: Sukari, Safawi, Mabroom, Khidri, Segai, Anbara, Ajwa, Medjool, and Deglet Nour.

Sukari – the royal dates – are of a rich brown color with golden-yellowish tones and have a caramelized and fruity taste and a soft, silky aftertaste of honey. Originating in Al-Qasim, Saudi Arabia, these dates are a pure, delectable treat. Neither dry nor too sweet, they are great as a snack and ideal to use in pastries, cakes, salads, smoothies, or cooked dishes.

Safawi have a beautiful dark brown color. They are chewy and mildly soft with a deep flavor. Sweet but not too much, with a subtle taste that reminds of coffee.

Mabroom are deliciously sweet and sticky, with light red-bronze skin and a lingering toffee-like taste on the palate. They have a smooth and pleasant flavor but are much firmer than other date varieties. Some may even find them quite hard to chew, like a candy. We think that’s exactly what makes Mabroom special. Plus, they contain multiple natural fibres and minerals which contribute to a healthy body and mind.

Khidri, the “tall, dark, and mysterious” date is largely known for its distinct deep chestnut red hue, uniform in color. They have a light and flaky skin and sweet, chewy flesh reminiscent of raisins, are moderate in sweetness, with a warm, intense aftertaste.

Segai are unusual in both appearance and flavor. Those two-toned, juicy dates are soft while at the same time chewy and have a golden, slightly dry and crunchy base. Their taste is mild and fruity and they’re less sweet than other date varieties. Segai are so good that they can easily become your new favorites!

Anbara are dark colored dates with a lightly structured skin. They’re juicy, soft and very aromatic. The flesh is tender yet almost slightly crispy. Anbara are quite big in size, but very light and not too sweet, which makes them a perfect snack any time of the day.

Ajwa dates are a distinctive variety from the Madinah region of Saudi Arabia. They have a unique round form and a deep crimson hue that is almost black. With its rich flavor and fine texture, this is a distinctly drier variety of date with a smooth, silky sweetness that melts in the mouth.

Medjool are the largest date variety. Their flesh is both moist and plump and they have a thin, soft skin. Medjool are chewy and sweet, their rich flavor tastes like caramel.

Deglet Nour are mainly grown in Algeria. They have a firm consistency and taste deliciously sweet.

How to store dates:

  • Up to 4 weeks: the dates can be kept at room temperature
  • For 1 – 5 months: keep the dates in the fridge
  • For 5 – 12 months: keep the dates in the freezer

Always keep the dates in a box or an airtight container so they don’t get dry.

Recommended serving temperatures for dates:

  • Soft and juicy dates such as Sukari Soft taste great when cold or even frozen (try frozen Sukari, it’s like a mini date ice cream – perfect on hot summer days!)
  • Medium soft dates like Segai or Medjool can be served cold (from the fridge) or at room temperature
  • Chewy dates such as Mabroom, Ajwa and Safawi should be served at room temperature, otherwise they’re too hard and chewy

Press the dates lightly with your fingers to check how soft they are.
